Cleaning crew

I got my cleaning crew today! Thank you Mom!
It consists of
Pier, oldest and biggest ghost shrimp
Casper, youngest and smallest ghost shrimp
Mystery, black mystery snail
Final competition results

2:2 tie, none from you, so I decided myself. I knew this would look great in my aquascape, which I named Nature's Chaos, after the famous aquascape. Mom doubted me, but in the end, it was I who proved herself right!

Happy betta keeping,
Jess

Got the cover and back ground from Roy!! :D

Sky now has a background and lid to his aquarium. The pH dropped to in between ideal and acceptable. He is now in his aquarium.

Special thanks to Roy from getting me the backgrounds and lid.
Thanks to Luna from being herself and almost knocking Sky's .33 down right after I finished this video.
And thank you Mom from giving me this camera and permission to be getting a fish in the first place.
I <3 You All!

Lets have a contest that will go from now until Thursday.
I have 2 choices for a snail
A Gold Inca Snail

Or

A Black Mystery Snail

Competition

I do not know which one to get, so please help me decide. Tell me which one looks more natural (like which one you would be more likely to see in the wild) and comment. This is an example for a comment, and the one I would probably do if no one comments
"I vote for a black mystery snail, and the name I vote for is Mystery."
Yes, you may also tell me what name you would name it. I am not creative and would name a black mystery Mystery or a gold inca Inca, which is why I would like some help. Of course, some names will be disqualified if they do not follow the terms and conditions.
Terms and conditions
If the name breaks any of the following rules, it will be disqualified:
Anything to do with drugs
Alcohol
Sex
advertisement (names of companies)
Racism
Names of Pokémon
Names of Japanese cartoon characters
Insulting names
*If the name you state has been disqualified and does not break any terms and conditions, that is because I plan on getting 7 neon tetras and you stated a name I think would be good for one of them.

So, which one do you think will be the best?
Competition July 9th- July 11th 2013

Here is Sky in his 10 gallon
Sky exploring his territory

He spotted his reflection and started to flare

My camera died.
When the battery is all charged up, probably in the morning, I will take more pictures.
Until then, Happy betta fish keeping,
Jessica

Floating betta

I really badly need the lid. I went to petco today and found out that the lid is only $9.99, and the snail I want, the black mystery, is like $1! (I forgot the actual price.) Anyway, I decided to float my betta fish.

I have to be careful, though, because bettas have a special organ to breathe with, which is at the top of their back, and they need to surface, meaning that if the .33 sinks in the 10, he will suffocate. I am going back downstairs to go and check on him now.
He is fine.
I decided to wait until you guys comment betta names to feature them.
Happy betta fish keeping,
Jessica

Filling up water

Every aquarium needs water!
I have 2 1-gallon jugs so it will take me a while to get the right amount of water in without stirring up rocks and moving my betta bulbs.
3:45pm
1 gallon

3:47 pm
2 gallons

3:53pm
3 gallons

3:55pm
4 gallons!

4:01pm
5 gallons

at 7 gallons it gets easier to dump in water
I decided to stop taking pictures

I am taking one more...
ALL THE WATER!
As you can see in the pictures before the last, my aquascape (I planted living plants that just did not start to grow yet) looked cloudy. That is because the hose doesn't have any warm water, so it was freezing, and precipitation made it hard to see. in the last picture the aquarium was wet. now all I need is an adapter and a lid for my aquarium.

Next time we will be talking about names for your fish!
Comment your fish's name and any other fish names you can think of and I might feature that name in my next blog!
Until next time,
Jessica and Sky

Still working on it

3:20 pm
Mom helped me hook up the air pump.
We took a trip to PetCo and bought the center piece and some more naturally colored aquarium gravel. I still have to work off all the money I owe my mom.
Here is what my aquarium looks like now:

Yep, nature themed!
Anyway, because the center piece is so important, I decided to take a couple of more shots of this very expensive decoration/hiding place

Because I plan on getting neon tetras, hiding placed are needed for my aquarium. Luckily this piece is full of them.

Remember, the center piece is not the main piece, the fish are, so make sure that your decorations meet your pet's needs.

I will post more later

UPDATE

Today I cleaned aquarium naturally colored rocks, my filter, and heater.
After applying all of those to the tank I also added betta bulbs and an outside thermometer.
Here is my tank's remodel http://youtu.be/3_d8g0yiAl4 I know that it is over stocked, but that is a 5 gallon and mine is a 10 gallon. I am going to have: SKY, 7 neon tetras, 2 ghost shrimp and 1 snail. Actually, I am debating between ghost shrimp and bamboo shrimp, but I think that I will just go with the ghost shrimp because they are smaller.
I am also am going to get some aquarium drift wood from PetCo, which is where I get all of my pet supplies from. As you might have heard, back in Hurricane Sandy another PetCo evacuated all of its workers but not its animals during a flood. All died. Well, this one isn't like that. This is the ONLY Pet store in the world that I trust, and that is because it passed my strict rules against of animal abuse. It only sells hermit crabs because it has to because all of the other Petcos do so they are required to. Anyway, it is only 3.5 miles to my house! Earlier I thought that it was 3 miles but it turned out that it was 3.5, so I biked 7 miles next to a busy street just to go check on Sky.
Anyway, I decided to take a picture of my 10 gallon aquarium every day and upload it to my blog. Today:
HUGE improvement!
There actually are betta bulbs, or plant seeds for special plants specifically for bettas in there already.
When I got it, there were bugs in it and it was gross and disgusting. Now, however, there are natural colored rocks, a filter, heater, thermometer, and betta bulbs! I am so excited!!!
Fun fact:
Betta and Beta are both correct ways to say the name for one fish.

Sky

Wednesday, July 3rd, 2013, I went to petco with my mom. I was looking at betta fish when I saw a beautiful blue marbled Halfmoon double tail male. For some reason, I kept on thinking Sky for a name, so I named him Sky. He I blue like a sky and marbled with white, which represents clouds. So, I named him Sky, even though he wasn't mine. I really badly wanted him, so Thursday, the next day, I biked 3 miles just to go and see him, and 3 miles to get home. Mom was furious. However, she changed her mind about the whole betta thing. She wanted me to get a betta, she just thought I wasn't ready, which I wasn't. So today she told me and Zack we were going to PetCo. I said "Yes! I get to go and see Sky! Can I take him home?" And she said "Yes"!!!!!! So, she had to go to the grocery store, which you should always do 1st so your betta doesn't boil in the car while you are in the store. I was scarred that someone else would get him, so I asked if I could go and stay with him and get all the supplies I need. She said sure. Zack went with her and I walked through the fish supplies thinking about each thing I needed (after going to pick up Sky!) And I ended up filling up a whole basket with supplies, from filters and heaters to a new air line that looks like a plant rather than a pump. I already had the food, of course! Anyway, so I got my fish and all the stuff, and it cost a total of $98! I paid $68, and Mom paid $30 for me. She owed me $5, so I only need to work off $25. It is SO worth it!
